Simultaneity

Simultaneity is one of the central design challenges when multiple end users are connected to a single geothermal system. In this chapter, the concept of simultaneity is introduced together with different ways of calculating it.

Interference

When designing a borefield, the base assumption is that the ground temperature is not influenced by any neighbouring system. However, this thermal interference between different borefields can be significant, that is why it is the topic of this chapter.

Individual and collective borefields

Geothermal borefields can be used in many different scenarios, but one general distinction is between individual and collective geothermal systems. In this chapter, three different types of geothermal systems, from fully individual to fully collective will be discussed.
